What's New - SNAP Eastern Queens

January 2012

CENTER DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

Happy New Year!! I hope everyone had a very happy holiday season! SNAP participants felt the warmth of good cheer throughout December as we celebrated with special programs all month long! Our Holiday Show had something for everyone to enjoy! Thanks to all the talented members, (and staff), who worked so hard to entertain us all. Thanks to our chefs Roberto, Frantz and Tomas for cooking an exceptional holiday feast for our holiday party, which was lovely. SNAP's bake sale was filled with scrumptious treats. Thanks to Carole Vahey for not only organizing the event, but baking as well. Thanks to all the volunteers and talented bakers who also donated to help make the fundraiser a success. Our end of year trips to Platzl Brauhaus and Doolans were Holiday treats for everyone who attended. Celebrating New Year's Eve and counting down to the New Year, at 12 noon, with SNAP participants is always a treat for me.

January not only brings the New Year, but also brings many new and exciting things to SNAP. Becoming an Innovative Senior Center beginning this month, our senior center is thrilled to welcome a Health and Wellness Specialist, Mindy Lesser, RN. Mindy will be available everyday for programs, educational presentations as well as chats with our participants. Please introduce yourself to her. Welcome to our family Mindy!!

Our Advisory Board has two seats available. We need more engaged participants to be a part of this board. If you are interested in running for the advisory board, please see me for a nomination petition. We will be holding a special election beginning January 17. Our events this month include a Falls Prevention Balance test for all of our participants, a presentation on talking with your doctor, and Chinese New Year Celebration. I am looking forward to these programs and more. Please read the events schedule so you don't miss any of the excitement at SNAP!
