SNAP participates in an intergenerational program with the local elementary schools. Delicious lunches are available at SNAP of Eastern Queens and SNAP Rosedale (a voluntary contribution of $2.00 per meal is suggested). Case ManagementThe main job of a case management program is to ensure that clients are receiving the services they need to remain safely in the community. These services include: case management, home-delivered meals, home care and might also include such services as mental health services, caregiver services, transportation, friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, services for the visually and/or hearing impaired and assistance in accessing appropriate programs for benefits and entitlements. If you are interested in an assessment please call SNAP’s intake person at 718-454-2385. Caregiver ServicesThe Cargiver Program of SNAP provides guidance and support to assist caregivers in coping with the challenging problems of caregiving. Caring for an elderly relative, spouse or friend can sometimes be overwhelming. Caregivers need not struggle alone, or feel guilty, embarrassed or ashamed about asking for help. The Caregiving Program of SNAP offers a variety of services to individuals caring for an older adult age 60 and over. Services include: Counseling, Telephone Support Groups, Supportive Groups, Educational Seminars, Information, Assistance and Referrals. The program covers Community Boards 10, 12, 13 and 14. For additional information call 718-740-6519. Volunteer OpportunitiesOlder adults in the community are comprised of parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, neighbors and friends. They come from all walks of life, are made up of many nationalities and are striving to remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible. Seniors benefit greatly from friendly companionship. A once a week visit to chat, play cards or take a slow walk through the neighborhood can really make a difference. SNAP volunteers also provide social interaction, do light errands and household chores. SNAP’s teleconference system enables seniors to participate in activities like book clubs and bingo. Volunteers can make a big difference for many seniors with no family members living in the community. SNAP offers many volunteer opportunities. Please consider what you can offer an older adult. Call Suzanne Windland at 718-454-2100 for further information.
